April is Stress Awareness Month, We Can Help

March 9, 2016

It's probably no coincidence that Stress Awareness Month is the same month as tax day. This year National Public Health Week is April 4-10 and their aim is to make America the healthiest nation by 2030. This is a great opportunity to encourage wellness in your organization and your community. Wellness programs reduce health costs, increase morale and engagement. Why not kick off a wellness program with promotional fitness products like custom branded shaker cups, Frisbees, jump ropes and healthy snacks.

Meeting Logistics can help develop creative competition and event activities revolving around steps using Fitbits. Winners can earn a weekend wellness retreat. Another idea is to add wellness into department meetings and take the group offsite to do something fun away from their desks, like an hour-long golf lesson, bowling or volleyball.

Here are some ideas for stress relief which can be done alone, with friends, or with coworkers as part of an employee wellness event.

Paint and sip night. Bring your favorite bottle of wine and prepare yourself for a relaxed, fun filled social experience. Unleash your inner artist, have lots of laughs and take home your creation at the end of the night. Paint and sip classes are quickly becoming the new night out for couples, friends and corporate events.

Exercise. Following a regular exercise program is a great way to relieve stress. Restorative yoga offers a soothing experience, designed to completely relax your body. It's about slowing down and opening the body through stretching. Tai Chi is a meditative series of movements designed to connect the mind and body and foster a sense of calm and serenity. Qi Gong focuses on the repetition of one movement at a time.

Music has the ability to quickly shift our mood, affecting our subconscious mind where negative thoughts cause stress. Listening to music is an inexpensive, quick solution that's almost always available. Also remember to play music on your commute to and from work. Keep a collection of music that helps you de-stress, release tension, or lift your spirits.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential plant oils to improve well-being. The oils are often placed in diffusers and allowed to permeate the air. It's a practice that's been used for centuries to address psychological and other issues. Some of the most popular essential oils are: peppermint, lavender, jasmine, chamomile, and lemongrass.

Adult Coloring Books. Coloring books are no longer just for children. Adult coloring books are all the rage right now. Just like meditation, coloring also allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus only on the moment.

Meeting Logistics can help you plan your next employee wellness event. We know that the key to having a successful corporate wellness program is by encouraging overall well-being while still keeping it fun.
